- Event Summary:
- To raise funds for the preservation of the Clarens Nature Reserve, the Clarens Village Conservancy is hosting a one-day trail running event that will allow runners and walkers to share the magnificent views and terrain of this mountainous area. This event promises to be fun and challenging for both novices and experienced runners and one can choose from a 35km, a 21km or a 10km route.
While the Clarens Village Conservancy is limited to trails that amount to about 25km, neighbouring farmers have opened up their land to allow the 35 km route to pass through segments of their unblemished, private game farm where animals roam - thus we can offer 14km of previously untouched trails to the public, further adding to the exclusivity of the event as these private trails will not be publicly accessible outside of race day. Both placement and spot prizes will be given away at prizegiving after the race.
- Early Bird Race Fees – Available online until August 27, 2022, includes a finishers medal and a day permit for the Clarens Nature Reserve:
- 10km = R180
- 21km = R280
- 35km = R380
- As an Early Bird giveaway, the first 50 entries will get a free CVC membership. This membership is valid from 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2023 and allows a family of four to have free access to the Clarens Nature Reserve and its exquisite trails. An annual CVC membership usually costs R360 per year per household.
- Online Early Bird Entries close 1 week prior to the event (on 27 August 2022) but Standard Entries are possible up until 15 mins before the start of your race.
- Race fees will increase after 27 August- i.e. 10km increases from R180 to R250; 21km increases from R280-R350 and 35km increases from R380-R450. Please contact us directly at[email protected]for substitutions and Standard Entries after 27 August.
- Registration:
- Registration is on Friday 2 September at Protea Hotel from 4-8 pm and again at the Clarens Town Square on Saturday morning (3 September) from 6.15 am. All runners to please download the Finish Time Passport App from the iPhone or Android App Store before coming to Registration.
- Race start times:
- 35km 7 am
- 21km 7.30 am
- 10km 8.15am
- All races start from the Clarens Town Square.
- NB - Please note:While there will be water points along the route, due to the challenging terrain a hydration pack is compulsory for runners doing the 35km route and this will be checked at the Runners Briefing on the morning of the race. 21km runners are also encouraged to take a hydration pack and extra nutrition with them however this is not a mandatory requirement for them. Unfortunately, we do not allow dogs at this event.

RACE ENTRY INFORMATION:
- Online entries are not refundable after the closing date for online entries (27 August 2022)
- Transfer of online entries to another runner is only allowed up until the closing date of online entries (27 August 2022) and can only be done within the same distance category.

- Standard Entries will be accepted after online entries have closed and even on the morning of the run, however, there will be an increase in race fees that are not purchased online.
- Rollovers to 2023 are only permissible in the event that the race is cancelled or postponed by the race organisers.
- Proof of ID will be required at registration.
- All runners will need to download the FinishTime Passport App in order to register for the run - this can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store - see here for more details regarding the FinishTime Passport App:https://finishtime.co.za/toolkit-passport/
- Entry fees do not include any race apparel.

- Spot prizes will be drawn at random and only given to entrants who are present at prize-giving, which will start at 11.30 am.
COVID-19 GUARANTEE:
- Due to the uncertain times in which we find ourselves, we understand that this can influence our ability to make decisions and commit to events ahead of time.
- In this regard, should we be forced to cancel the event for COVID related reasons - we would like to assure you that you can choose to roll your entry over to 2023, or you can receive a 70% refund on your 2022 race entry.
- Due to the ever-changing nature of COVID, we reserve the right to make additional COVID-related race or registration regulations in line with the national COVID guidelines at the time of the event.
GENERAL RACE RULES:
- All entrants will be required to pin their race numbers to the front of their shirts, so it is visible throughout the run.
- All entrants will need to download the FinishTime passport from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store - see here for more details regarding the FinishTime Passport App:https://finishtime.co.za/toolkit-passport/
- The minimum age limit is 16 years for the 21km and 18 years for the 35km
- All entrants are to PERSONALLY collect their registration packs at Protea Hotel on Friday 2 September from 4pm-8pm or on Saturday morning from 6.15am from the Clarens Town Square (race start line).
- Entries will be accepted on the morning of the race, up until 15 minutes before your distance is set to start and late joining fees will apply.
- All entrants participate at their own risk, and the race organisers and sponsors will not be responsible for any loss or injury incurred during or as a result of the race. The organisers and sponsors will also not be responsible for any property lost or damaged on the course or around the start/finish area.
- The event will provide Medical Support for all runners. Should a runner require additional Medical Support over and above that provided by the Event, this will be for the Runner’s personal expense.
- All medical / paramedic costs are for the entrant's own account. The organisers will not pay for these nor be responsible for the costs thereof.
- All entrants will be personally required to sign an indemnity form and a COVID questionnaire through the FinishTime Passport App at registration. These may not be signed by a 3rd party.
- Three well stocked Aid Stations will be provided along all the routes however we strongly recommend 21km runners run with a hydration pack and extra nutrition. Please note that It is a mandatory requirement that 35km runners run with a hydration pack - this will be checked before the run briefing starts, and you will not be able to participate unless you have a pack with you.
- No seconding whatsoever is permitted, and you may be disqualified in this regard.
- The race occurs in the Clarens Nature Reserve and on private property - therefore, no littering whatsoever will be tolerated. Rubbish Bins will be provided at the Aid Stations, and disposal of litter between the stations is explicitly not allowed. IF YOU LITTER, YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
- Prizegiving will start at 12.00 and be subject to Covid Regulations. There will be both spot prizes and place prizes available.
- All finishers in all events will receive a race medal.
- There will be no refund of the entry fee nor any other costs should the race have to be cancelled for any reasons beyond the organiser's control, e.g. severe weather conditions.
