Greyton Brew Run
Sat 19 Nov 2016 @ Greyton, Western Cape

Organiser
Greyton Trail Running Society

Greyton is well known for its amazingly epic MTB and trail running routes available to all fitness freaks (and the not so fit freaks) throughout the year.  However, SOME routes are kept secret and we are thrilled to have been granted access to the pristine Greyton Nature Reserve for this exclusive event….

100% of the proceeds raised from this event go to our local village school, Greyton House.  More than 30% of the children attending the independent school are accepted on reduced fees, calculated according to the parent’s financial circumstances.  The school is currently in dire financial need and we hope to raise as much as we can!  Thank you for your support in our endeavor to educate the little people in our village.

Back to business…

Check out the routes:

20km  -  R200

12km  -  R150

6km  -  R100

Kids 12 and under pay half price

20km

Two main climbs await, both offering different views of Greyton and the valley below.

The flat start down main road doesn't last long before a jeep track climb allows for some seeding before the second half if the climb takes you up and around Hardepeer Kloof on a steep, scramble in places, path.

The footpath continues down to the top of Platkloof and then down to your first water point. Then it's into Noupoort and out again and over to the Gobos crossing and onto a short piece of open jeep track.  The split for the 20km takes you straight into Maermanskloof for your second proper climb rising quickly above the scenery below.

Take a breath before plummeting down and around for a south approach to the village up historic Vigne lane. There's craft beer at the finish, but you'll have to run brew, run!

12km

The same first climb and up to the split add the 20km, but instead of heading for another hill you'll be on a fast single track to the finish. Elevation is just over 400m and most of the route is on Greyton Nature Reserve hiking trails so if you've got the legs you're in for a good one!

6km

About half the route is on jeep track and the other half single track, but we've kept it flattish and fast, but will take you almost right around Greyton.  Enjoy!

Where?

Start and finish  - The Old Potter’s Inn and Brewhouse (hic) have generously donated their venue (and some brew – hic).  You’ll find them at 16 Main Road, Greyton.  You can’t miss it!

What does your entry get you?

Well the way it works….jumpstart your day with a MIKO coffee and padstal rusk.  Along the route you’ll find two water points – one for the 12km and two for the 20km – we have BOS tea energy drinks, cokes, water, treats and banana bread galore!  If you make it to the finish, and trust me you’ll want to…kick back on the lawns opposite Potter’s Inn and Brewhouse with a pint of Greytons very own brew.  Nothing could be better!

Timing?

We are doing this manually and promise to be as professional as possible!

Prizes?

Yes, as many as we can get together for the day… rumour has it that Overberg Asset Management is dishing out some dosh to one or two deserved winners.  All entrants will receive a souvenir to take home on the big day…something small to remember us by J.  The big event should take place at 12:30pm on the lawn opposite Potters Inn.

Lunch?

Greyton has a few good restaurants very close to the race venue.  There will also be some easy-food and drinks for sale on the lawn, or bring your own picnic and picnic blanket.  Good chill out zone.

Parking?

Pass Greyton House Village School (on your left) as you enter Greyton and park at the Old Moravian Hall next door to the yellow library.  Parking attendants will keep an eye on your car for the day.

FREE Childcare?

Yes absolutely!  We are a school after all – duh!  Park your car and take a few steps back to the school – teachers and child minders will be available to look after your little munchkins.  There may be one or two grumpy teens (apologies in advance) on hand to kick a ball or just generally hang out with.  But  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give us an indication beforehand if you are going to use this facility – we need to make sure we have enough child minders on hand.  Either call Sally Harris at the school reception:  028 254 9260 or email [email protected]/* */  for  more info.  Indemnities will need to be signed.

Registration?

Ready or not we’ll be waiting for you from 7am, Old Potters Inn and Brewhouse, 16 Main Road

What do I need?

All the usual – and please take your phone along – this way you can call us if you need assistance.  And a back pack with water is a good idea – these mountains can get quite hot.

Where is Greyton?

Seriously?  You’ve never been here?  We’re 140km from CT along the N2 – travel towards Arniston but head left on the R406 just before Caledon.  Our dorpie is 32km from the turnoff.  Watch out for the donkeys between Genadendal and Greyton  - the speed limit is 80km for a good reason!
