Route Descriptions:

15km MTB

Going through town, following the POELIESIEKAR :) , riders will be on their own from km 1,6km. A really nice introductionary into mountain biking – this ride will allow the kiddies to really “gooi-mal.” This route consists of tar, gravel, sandy and rocky terrains but in a very mild manner. Mixing open roads with single track and some bridges along the way will have all the elements of what a short enjoyable MTB ride should be.

After 12km, all the entrants will re-group on the west-side of Bredasdorp and then be escorted back through the town by the local POELIESMAN :) before crossing the line in one BEEG HAPPY YELLING BUNCH OF COYOTES!... And that’s how real MTBing should be!

57km MTB

Starting out through the main street of Bredasdorp, riders will head towards Napier in a friendly, neighbourly fashion for the first 1,6km, being in a neutral zone. As the flag drops you are welcome to do your bit towards “when all hell breaks loose.” For the next 8.6km you will ride through beautiful farm roads, single track and jeep track, steadily but almost unbeknown, climbing all the time.

Split at km 8,6:

Here the 33km (BLUE) & 57km (RED) riders will turn left up the mountain and pass our municipal dam, visible on the left. This is for most part a non-technical climb and will be enjoyed by all – it’s a nice balance of climbs and flatter, resting sections and will have rewarding views and water points at the top.

Split at km 13,3:

Here the 33km (BLUE) riders turn left and will cross a century old stonewall to head down the mountainside - ELIM direction. This downhill is only difficult if you want to become a new-born hero, ending up as a zero - ride within your capability and we’ll see you in one piece at the finish. Once at the bottom, riders will, at km 17, meet up with the 47km & 57km cyclists and share the same route back home for the final 16km.

The 57km (RED) cyclists go straight through a beautiful fynbos stand of Protea Compacta flowers and head westerly along the mountains. At km 16, they will go down a somewhat technical but hugely rewarding single track section followed by an exhilarating downhill with almost breakneck speeds, BUT, be careful please. At the bottom at km 19,7, they will rejoin the 47km (PURPLE) blokes, at least the same route and might catch some of them later on.

The 47km (PURPLE) riders will carry on straight and have the luxury of another almost flattish but rolling 9km section before they head up the renowned Napier mountain towards the MAST.

Once the 47km & 57km riders have reached the top, going around the mast, they will then pass a waterpoint and start going down one of the most enjoyable and somewhat technical downhill sections, ever! This is actually the start of the home-run and if you don’t have fun all the way home, something is seriously wrong with you and you should seek help or apply for an old age pension…!

At the 16km mark all the 33, 47 & 57 riders are back together on the same route and it will be a fast adrenaline run all the way… ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY!!
