Greyton Brew Run 2020
Sat 19 Sep 2020 @ Greyton, Western Cape

Greyton Trail Running Society

ENTRIES CLOSE ON THURSDAY, 17 SEPTEMBER AT MIDNIGHT! NO LATE ENTRIES ALLOWED ON THE DAY!

Where?

Start and finish  - The Old Potter’s Inn and Brewhouse have generously donated their venue (and their brew - COVID Regulations permitting).  You’ll find them at 16 Main Road, Greyton.  You can’t miss it!

What does your entry get you?

Well, the way it works….jumpstart your day with a coffee. Along the route you’ll find three water points, stocked with ice tea, energy drinks, cokes, water, treats and banana bread galore!  If you make it to the finish, and trust me you’ll want to… a pint of Greyton's very own brew.  Nothing could be better!

The Routes:

20km: total climb 950m (You will thank us afterwards)

This year we’ve switched things around a bit.

We’re taking you to the same places but in the opposite direction.

For those of you who know the route this means than the start allows for a bit more warming up before the first climb at 6km. The finish is now on a nice smooth fast downhill and the 2 hills will now slightly favour the descenders. The climbs are still steep but less so that last year and the downhills are now more steep and rocky so you’ll have to watch your footing.

Between the two peaks at about 10km and 17km there’s some lovely engaging running through the reserve quite fast, slightly technical and beautiful! The 2 water points are before both climbs, but the streams are flowing abundantly after the rains. In fact, you’ll do well not to get your feet wet after the first climb!

13km: total climb 380m

The 13km route has also been switched around, and changed a bit. This means that you have a warm up before the hills begin. The steep zigzag climb from last year to the water point has also been changed to give you a gentler approach to the water point on the hill.

The first climb at 2km is easy gradual running on some of Greyton’s MTB trails. The next climb combines cycle track with some gnarly jeep track to the first water point at 6km. A quick descent through the woods leads you into some special trail that keeps you focused until the last water point, if you need it, just after the 10km mark. Water crossings are deeper than the stepping stones so commit to wet feet from the big river crossing at the halfway mark.

6km: total climb 100m

A totally new route leads you out of town on open road but then quicky gives you a taste of some proper single track and a river crossing or two where you can make a real splash! The terrain will require some focus but there aren’t any long steep climbs. The route takes you almost right around Greyton.

Pass Greyton House Village School (on your left) as you enter Greyton and park at the Old Moravian Hall next door to the yellow library.  Parking attendants will keep an eye on your car for the day.

Some housekeeping decisions that have been made because of COVID:

  • This year there will be no kiddies area, so please ensure you have someone to look after your little ones on the day.
  • No spectators will be allowed, if regulations change we will be sure to notify you immediately.
  • There will be no finishing medals this year, with the event becoming a lot smaller & all proceeds going to the Greyton House Keep the Kids at School Bursary fund we felt that this would be an unnecessary expense.
  • Prize giving will be held as the runners come in and not at the end as before.
  • No late entries will be allowed on the day. Should you prefer to complete a manual entry you can pick up a form from Old Potter's Inn & Brewhouse or from Greyton Tourism.
