Nestled halfway between Tzaneen and the Kruger National Park and a mere 52km away from South Africa’s Big Five capital, Hoedspruit, you’ll find the small town of Gravelotte which was established in 1916. Gravel Grinders are undoubtedly in vogue, but locals have secretly been enjoying cycling these scenic dusty roads for some time now. One of the highlights of a cycle out here is that you often get treated to a lovely sighting of the abundant wildlife that the area has to offer. Further along the route cyclists get to stop at another one of SA’s curious destinations – The Leydsdorp Hotel. Leydsdorp’s main claim to fame is that it used to be one of President Paul Kruger’s favourite hunting destinations as well as a gold rush town of yesteryear. After enjoying some water and/or a beer at the hotel, riders then continue on to the beautiful Jakkalsroep venue where they will be treated to a spit braai and warm Limpopo hospitality.
