We are excited to announce this new trail run stage race right in the heart of the Boland, two years in the making we are finally ready to launch the event. Runners will be challenged through beautiful valleys in and around Stellenbosch & Banhoek.
Starting with an exciting 10 – 15km Prologue late on Friday afternoon 23 September, the prologue will determine your starting position for the second day’s race. Be warned the distances might be shorter than other races but the total ascend will be more…
Day two will be an interesting and longer day 20 -25km, as the stronger runners will make their move and could open up the field with a good performance, they will need to keep something in the tank for the final day. Runners will be taken places where they have never been before, running over the old elephants pass to Stellenbosch, we thought it wise to call the stage after the great chief of the Cochaqua tribe – Gonnema’s revenge
Day three will be more relaxed with only 18- 20km, taking runners through the beautiful single track and views that Boschendal has to offer.

The Black package
There will only be 5 teams that can enter for this package.
This will be an exclusive entry to the race and the team will be treated as VIP’s. Picking you up at the Airport (should you fly in) bringing you to your luxury stay at Boschendal.
This will not be the only extra you will receive but you will get the chance to start each day with the top 10 teams. VIP’s will also receive a team masseuse/masseur making sure they are ready for the next day. You just need to run.
Having the race over the heritage weekend in Stellenbosch we could not have chosen a more appropriate name for the event than the Tribe who once ruled the Drakenstein valley, here is a bit more about The Cochoqua tribe.
They were one of the riches and strongest of the Khoi tribes in area of the Berg River and Drakenstein Valleys. Their tribal leader, Gonnama was instrumental to their success and the tribe was between 16 000 -18 000 members in the 1670’s.
The Cochoqua tribe were defeated during the second Khoikhoi – Dutch war 1670, and most of their livestock was looted. On the death of their leaders, the tribe dispersed, with some trekking towards the Orange River, while others were in the service of colonists.
What does this mean?
You will have the same challenges as Gonnama and his team had, you will need to conquer the valleys once roamed by this famous tribe. No wonder the second day’s name Gonnama’s Revenge is something to look forward to.
