Come join us at Capaia Wines for our inaugural 6-Hour Mountain Bike Lap Ultra.

Looking for something that will challenge your skills, endurance and sense of adventure? Look no further! See how many 15km laps you can do in 6 hours. This 15km lap offers the perfect mix of great jeep and single track through the vineyards, lung buster climbs with spectacular views and thrilling downhills. Do any distance from as little as 15km to as much as 120km!

You have the option to enter as a solo rider or in a team of 2. There will be separate e-bike categories. All participants will start the race at 9am and do as many laps as they can before 3pm.

Special Ultra Prize:

There is a special prize for anyone that can break the 100km mark, thus do 7 or more laps!

Solo: One person that rides as many laps as he/she wants/can during the 6-hour period.

Solo e-bike: One person that rides as many laps as he/she wants/can during the 6-hour period on an e-bike.

Team: A team of 2 (any combination of male and/or female riders). One rider of the team rides at a time. The team rides as many laps as they wants/can during the 6-hour period.

Team e-bike: A team of 2 (any combination of male and/or female riders). One rider of the team rides at a time. The team rides as many laps as they wants/can during the 6-hour period on e-bikes.

Please take note: You do not have to follow a set rider sequence.


NB: All solo/teams will need a temporary timing tag at R50 which is included in the price. You need to return your tag or be liable for a R100 tag replacement fee.



EVENT RULES


Entries:

  • Goodie bags to the first 50 riders entered.
  • Only pre-entries get boerie roll.
  • Pre-entries close 9am on Friday 13 May 2022.
  • No refunds.
  • Late entries allowed at registration. Only cash accepted.


Registration:

  • Friday 13 May 2022: 10:30 to 14:30 at Apex Multisport (Shop 25, 1st Floor, Seaside Village, Cnr Otto Du Plessis Drive and Cormorant Ave, Big Bay).
  • Saturday 14 May 2022: 8:00 to 8:45 at Capaia Wines (start venue).
  • Late entries allowed at registration. Only cash accepted.


Racing:

  • Bike rack at start by 8:50. Starting riders must have their bikes pre-positioned at the designated area at the Start.

  • Race number wristband and timing tag required to enter start pen.

  • Race start at 9:00 in Le-Mans style start. Riders must run to their bikes from the starting pen.

  • There will be a Tech Zone provided by Cycle Buzz at the race village for any emergency repairs and spares. 


Transitions:

  • There is 1 timing pod at the start/finish area.

  • There is no need to tag the pod to start the first lap of the event as we use the 9:00 start time for all riders.

  • After every lap you tag the pod to indicate the finish of a lap and the start of another.

  • After the timing pod, you can hand over the “baton” to the next rider by handing them the timing tag.

  • Even if you do consecutive laps – you must tag the pod otherwise your laps will not be counted.

  • The transition area is for riders only.


Finish:

  • The race finishes at 15:00.

  • No laps started after 15:00 will be counted.

  • Any laps started before 15:00 can still be finished.


Results:

  • Finished laps will be counted after 15:00 to see who will win the race.

  • Categories are subject to the number of entrants per category. If one category has less than three entries, then that category will fall away.

  • Prizegiving is planned for 16:00 depending on last riders finishing their last lap.




  • Helmets are compulsory!

  • Obey all marshals and officials

  • Do not litter

  • Please return your timing tags after the event

  • No refunds. No exceptions

GENERAL RULES

  • Supporters on the Course: No outside support is allowed for riders on the course. All support crews are allowed to support their riders only at the race village.

  • Passing slower riders: Let other riders know when you are passing. i.e. coming up on a slower rider, indicate “passing on the RIGHT (or left)”. Allow for slower riders to move over or reach an area suitable for passing. If you are the rider being passed, listen to which side they are going to pass on, be courteous and allow the rider to go by.

  • Water and Food: The boerie roll included in the entry will be available after the finish of the event at 15:00. Their will be a water fountain for riders to fill up bottles at the race village. Food and drinks are also for sale at the restaurant.

  • Short-cutting: Short-cutting the course by any registered rider shall result in a disqualification of that rider or team.

  • Loss of Timing Tag Penalty: Loss of the timing tag will result in a disqualification of that rider or team.



Covid-19 regulations


You enter this event at your own risk. Kindly note that by attending this event you agree that you are symptom free and have not been in contact with anyone who is Covid positive in the last 14 days. Dragonfly Tri and Capaia Wines will not be held responsible should you contract Covid at this event.

Route information

Directions from Cape Town:

Travelling on the N7 from Cape Town, head north on the N7 towards Malmesbury. Turn left at Exit 31 (Melkbosstrand). At the junction, immediately turn righ and pass underneath the N7 bridge. Continue straight until you reach a T-junction. Turn left onto the Botterberg gravel road.

Directions from Stellenbosch:

Take the R304 towards Klipheuwel / Malmesbury. Turn left for Klipheuwel. Turn right (still on the R304) just after Klipheuwel. Continue on this road towards Philadelphia. You will go over a single-lane bridge, up a little hill and just over the hill, turn left onto the Old Malmesbury Road. Follow this road until you turn right onto the Botterberg gravel road.
