Hike the Vines
On Tuesday evening the 23rd of April 2024 we will host our 4th Full Moon Hike on Klapmutskop @ Delvera Farm near Klapmuts.
The Full moon hike from the Delvera courtyard next to The Greater Simonsberg Conservancy office, takes us around Delvera dam, through the pristine vineyards to the foot of Klapmutskop. From here we follow the single track through the fynbos and 300-year-old Yellowwood tree forest over some moderately technical terrain to the lookout point at the Klapmutskop summit.
The hike is approximately 3,5km from the start to the summit with almost 300m of ascent. Please dress in appropriate hiking apparel and shoes with a windbreaker so you are comfortable at the lookout point where we will wait for the moon to rise while enjoying a glass of Delheim white wine.
The outing takes up to 4 hours and we descend down the circular route from the summit well after sunset - please remember your headlamp/torch.
Full moon hikes are limited to the first 50 hikers, so please enter early to avoid disappointment.
Your entry fee includes an R20 donation to the Greater Simonsberg Conservancy: The Greater Simonsberg Conservancy is a Non-profit and Public Benefit Organisation, with the aim to support its private landowners around the base of the Simonsberg Mountain, Klapmutskop and the Banhoek Valley, in their conservation efforts, as well as providing environmental education and conservation awareness services in the surrounding communities.
Cost
Hike - R150 - Includes GSC donation and a glass of wine on top at the lookout point.
What to bring
- Headlamp (Compulsory) for the hike
- A windbreaker and a beanie are well advised.
- Snacks and water. Only wine will be served at the top.
