MURATIE TRAILS MARATHON

Dirtopia Trails at Muratie is known for the singletrack and trail users have been asking to ride / run outside of the borders on a longer event route.  The time has come this Spring!

Exclusive route for intermediate mountain bikers - this event will be a trail experience of 40km with 27km of singletrack and 1600m of climbing.  Ebikes are welcome (in their own category).

A 21km route for fit Trail Runners, that consist of mostly singletrack and 750m elevration.

Entries are limited and the event will take pre-entries only.

• Exclusive singletrack experience on private land in the Knorhoek Valley on the foot of Simonsberg.

Facilities at Dirtopia Trail Centre on Muratie wine farm:

• Coffee will be available from 7am.
• Warm shower facilities. 
• Food, beer & wine for sale at the finish.
• Technical assistance
• Shop trail essentials in the Trail Centre.

Family & friends welcome to join at the start/finish venue where there will be food on offer, cold beer and coffee and of course the superb Muratie wines.  The wine tasting centre will be open and please book ahead to reserve seats for meals at Muratie’s Farm kitchen.

Route:

This unique route will take riders on 27km of singletrack trails of which about 50% are not normally open to the public. With 1600m of climbing, the route is designed so that riders can bail out to the finish earlier.   Three waterpoints for the mountain bikers at 8.5km, 12.5km and 26km.  Trail Runners must aslo carry their own hydration but can stop at two waterpoints at 8.5km and 14km.

Route designer Meurant Botha wears many hats (!), so you can call him what you like from bearded long grey hair mountain biker to race director, Founder of Dirtopia & Amarider, well-known trail builder of thirty years and of course a lover of the Simonsberg valley and its wines!

Dirtopia’s partnership with Muratie has a history – just like the old-charm feel on the ‘werf’ of one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa. The warm hospitality of Muratie and the Melck family love of nature, have welcomed trail users on their land and there is no better way to experience this than at the Muratie Trails Marathon event. Mountain bikers have a 40km trail experience for intermediate to advanced riders, while fit trail runners can tackle a 21km challenge. We do not need to describe the route in detail...all you need to know is that it is a beautiful ride & run that you can feel privileged to take part in and will remember for many years to come…
