New Year’s Eve Sunset hike at Muratie

Toast the last sunset of 2025 with a glass of bubbly in hand!

Trail hours will be extended on Wednesday 31st, but booking is essential for this special evening on the mountain.  The hiking trail starts from Dirtopia Trail Centre at Muratie wine farm to a look-out point with spectacular views.  See the sunset over Table Mountain and a view of the Winelands, while enjoying a wonderful adventure with friends & family to celebrate the last evening of the year!  The marked circle route is approximately 3.5km total, and it can take you 30 min / up to 45 minutes to reach the top, so do not arrive later than 19h00 to ensure that you have the full experience. A glass of Muratie’s Lady Alice MCC poured as you arrive at the look-out.

Bring a blanket to sit on while you wait for the sunset / moon rise under the watchful eye of the Simonsberg mountain.  There will be a Muratie wine station at this point, just past the  Gilloolys 'trail intersection'; where you can enjoy your packed picnic. Bring extra cash / card to buy a glass or bottle of Muratie’s red or white wine. 

All hikers to leave the look-out by 8.30 pm latest - Muratie wine farm closes by 22h00.

 Remember that you need to carry out all your own trash. No smoking allowed on the mountain!

Time:  Arrival by 18h00, no later than 19h15 to start hike.

Venue: Dirtopia Trail Centre, Muratie Farm, R44 between Klapmuts and Stellenbosch

Cost:  R225pp & R90 for children under 10yrs 

(incl a glass of Muratie’s MCC for adults. A juice for kids)

You can be back at the Trail centre by 20h30/21h00, depending on your walking speed and the time you start going down.  Bring something warm to wear after dark, a picnic blanket and a torch, 

Wear good walking / hiking shoes – you are climbing a mountain with steps & various terrain. Snacks & cooldrinks for sale at the Trail Centre, but you are welcome to bring you own to enjoy on top of the mountain. 

All hikers must adhere to the rules of the trail and Dirtopia’s terms and conditions.

• Please return wine glasses to the wine station after use, thank you.
• Muratie Rose, Sauvignon Blanc & Blended red for sale per glass or per bottle. Lady Alice MCC per bottle.

Rules of the trail:

1. NO SMOKING OR FIRES(which includes the use of gas stoves) on the mountain
2. Latest time to start hiking back – 20h30
3. Leave no trace - DO NOT LITTER
4. Alcohol to be consumed in a responsible manner
5. Stay on hiking trail marked with blue footprints – do NOT follow bike paths
6. Remember not to leave valuables in your vehicle
