OUTRUN isn’t just about kilometers - it’s about a mission. 

Over 21 days, you’ll tackle three curated routes through Stellenbosch, each with its own story, challenge, and earned status. This isn’t a race for spectators or medals you forget, it’s a test of effort, discipline, and identity. Every run counts, every finisher earns recognition, and every route completed adds to your OUTRUN legacy.

• Stage 1: +/- 5KM
• Stage 2: +/- 10KM

Complete the stages in any order, as many times as you want (your best attempt will count).

The Basic entry gives you access to the OUTRUN challenge and the official leaderboard. You’ll receive all three GPX routes, track your runs on Strava, and see your name climb the rankings as you complete each stage. This tier is for runners who want the experience, the accountability, and the satisfaction of earning their mark, without the extras.

PREMIUM - The Full OUTRUN Experience

Be seen. Be ranked. Be recognised.

Premium is where OUTRUN comes alive. In addition to full challenge access, you’ll receive the official OUTRUN goody bag and physical recognition for your effort. Your progress is visible, your performance counts, and your finish is celebrated. This tier is for runners who want more than just a result - they want to be part of the culture.

Includes everything in Basic, plus:

• OUTRUN goody bag
• Custom OUTRUN socks
• Electrolytes
• OUTRUN arm bands
• Eligibility for route winner prizes
• Custom OUTRUN winning T-shirt (route & overall winners)
• In-person medal ceremony access

APEX - Top Tier

Compete at the top. Leave your mark.

Apex is reserved for runners who want to push harder, compete seriously, and stand out. This tier unlocks full prize eligibility, priority recognition, and premium rewards. Apex runners aren’t just finishing - they’re chasing podiums, features, and status.

Includes everything in Premium, plus:

• Eligibility for overall male & female prizes
• Custom OUTRUN T-shirt with your name at the back
• R1500 cash for stage winners (male & female)
• R5000 cash prize for overall winners (male & female) 
• Priority recognition on OUTRUN platforms

One week prior to the starting date, you’ll receive GPX files and a Strava link for each route. 

Track your runs on Strava to appear on the OUTRUN leaderboard. Sign up to our online OUTRUN leaderboard app and give permission to track your Strava runs. Our app will automatically detect when you run the OUTRUN routes. After each run you will be able to view your stats on the OUTRUN leaderboard app.

Each stage is curated so you’re running something intentional, safe, and not random.

How It Works

1. Sign Up – Limited entries, only a few hundred runners.
2. Pick Up Your Goody Bag – Includes custom OUTRUN socks, electrolytes and Arm bands to wear for each run, available at select Cape Town locations a week before the start.
3. Run Your Routes – Complete all three stages within 21 days, on your own schedule.
4. Track & Upload – Record your efforts on Strava to enter the leaderboard and get recognition.

Leaderboard & Recognition

The OUTRUN leaderboard is real and meaningful:

• Age categories & special “Weekend Warrior” recognition

Each run you complete increases your status.

Every finisher (Premium & Apex Categories) earns a dog-tag style medal engraved with all completed routes.

The Community & Ceremony

After the challenge, join your fellow OUTRUN participants at an in-person medal ceremony. Celebrate your achievements, share stories, and connect with the community. If you can’t attend, medals can be collected at a select location. This isn’t just a medal, it’s a badge of honor and a mark of identity.
