Nestled in the heart of the Cape Winelands on a historic farm dating back to 1693, Spice Route Destination is a truly unique South African experience that celebrates flavour, craftsmanship and culture against the backdrop of Paarl’s majestic mountains and lush vineyards. Inspired by the centuries-old Eastern spice trade, this vibrant destination brings together a collection of artisanal producers under one sprawling estate—making it the perfect setting for our 3-day stage event.

Over three unforgettable days, participants and spectators alike will be immersed in an extraordinary fusion of tastes, sights and experiences. From expertly curated tastings of hand-crafted wines, premium craft beers, and artisanal spirits to world-class culinary offerings and boutique shops showcasing local goods, Spice Route offers something to delight every sense. Wander through scenic paths framed by towering oak trees, relax in beautiful gardens, and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere that draws visitors from across South Africa and beyond.

The Trails: 

Set in the breathtaking Cape Winelands just outside Paarl, the Paarl Trails at Spice Route offer an unforgettable outdoor adventure playground that perfectly complements the energy and excitement of our 3-day stage event. Part of the expansive trail network managed by Paarl Trails, this scenic terrain invites runners and hikers of all levels to explore flowing singletrack, rolling vineyards, and diverse natural landscapes that span from leisurely vineyard loops to more technical mountain routes — all against the stunning backdrop of Paarl Mountain and valley vistas.

Originating directly from the iconic Spice Route Destination, the Paarl Trails network connects enthusiasts to an array of multi-use trails ranging from gentle 5 km circuits through to extended loops that weave through vineyards, past dams and around rolling hills. 

After your daily adventures on trail, the Destination itself offers a warm Cape-Winelands welcome — with artisan eateries, award-winning breweries and distilleries, master winemakers and local craft experiences waiting to reward every effort. This blend of invigorating activity and sensory indulgence makes the Paarl Trails at Spice Route the perfect canvas for a multi-day stage event that celebrates both the spirit of competition and the joy of discovery. 

The Event:

This is a Solo Runner event. Participants will have the option of entering the short or the long distance. 

3 Day Stage: 

Short Route:

30.8km Total

Entry Fee: R700 excl meals and accommodation.

Day 1 – 7km – Elevation 242m - Start 18:00 (Headlamp compulsory)

Day 2 – 13km – Elevation 627m - Start 08:30 

Day 3 – 10.8km – Elevation 512m - Start 08:30

Long Route:  

50.3km 

Entry Fee: R850 excl meals and accommodation.

Day 1 – 7km – Elevation 242m - Start 18:00 (Headlamp compulsory)

Day 2 – 24km – Elevation 1053m - Start 08:00

Day 3 – 19.3km – Elevation 762 - Start 08:00

One Day only: Participants are welcome to enter the one day only event on the Saturday.

13km – R250 – Start 08:30

19.3km – R350 – Start 08:00

• All participants in the 3 day event will be receiving a T Shirt and a Cap. 
• Event merchandise will be available at the event. 
• Medals for all finishers.

Cancellation / Refund Policy

• No refunds of your entry fees unless we have to cancel the event due to unforeseen circumstances. In this case your entry will be transferable or refunded.
• NO EXCEPTIONS (INCLUDING MEDICAL).
