SA YOUTH ROAD CYCLING, CRITERIUM AND TIME TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

INTRODUCTION

The yearly Cycling SA Youth Road Cycling Championships take place in Oudtshoorn over the period 24 till 26 September 2026. The championships will consist out of Criterium races, Individual Time Trials and  Road Races for all youth categories..

FORMAT

The Championships will take place in Oudtshoorn over three (3) days with the Criterium on Friday, the Individual Time Trials on Saturday and the Road Races on Sunday. The Criteriums will take place at the VG Church Hall Bridgton, and the Individual Time Trials and Road Races from Highgate Ostrich Show Farm near Volmoed.

Time Trial starting list will be available on Thursday 24 September 2026 after the Managers meeting.

RULES

The event will take place according to UCI and Cycling SA rules and regulations. The Commissaires Panel will make the final decision on any disputes.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND RULES

The event will be held run under UCI and Cycling SA rules.

A deposit of R200.00 will be required for the numbers. When numbers are returned undamaged in complete sets, deposits will be refunded. 

You may be asked to produce proof of payment at registration, so please have it available.

Youth riders participating must have Membership of Cycling SA and belong to a Cycling SA affiliated club in order to qualify for a podium position in these championships.

The CSA and UCI rules will apply and the decision of the President Commissaire is final.

Times may vary depending on number of participants and detail times will be communicated at the manager meetings. Criterium heats will be finalised after registration on THURSDAY 24 September 2026.

Riders to keep to left side of the white median line of the road at all times. There is no full road closure. 

The use of Time Trial bicycles and/or equipment in not allowed in road races and also not for age categories U15 and younger in time trials.

All wheels must confirm to the UCI’s list of approved wheels. Young rider’s wheel depth may not be greater than 50mm.

Gold, silver and bronze medals and championship jerseys shall be awarded in the Criterium Races, Individual Time Trials and Road Races to all YOUTH categories if there are five (5) or more riders per category. Less than five (5), then the age categories shall be combined and form a “4 year” category to meet the requirements. Only one (1) jersey and one (1) set of medals will be awarded. If less than five (5) riders start in their own or combined categories, medals, but not jerseys, will be awarded, irrespective of the number of participants, as follows:

• Four (4) or three (3) riders starting – silver and bronze medals.
• Two (2) riders starting – bronze medal only.
• One (1) rider starting – no medal.

Jerseys and medals are awarded to all Para-cycling riders irrespective of the number of participants.

Any rider who are lapped by the lead riders shall be eliminated and must leave the race.

In the case of a recognised mishap namely - a legitimate fall - a puncture - the breakage of an essential part of the bicycle, a rider shall be entitled to a neutralisation of one lap. After the neutralisation, the rider shall resume the race in the bunch he/she left. No lap of grace when the whistle blew for the last lap.
