Orienteering is competitive or non-competitive recreational hiking or running activity in which participants use a map and compass (compass is not compulsory!) to navigate between checkpoints along an unfamiliar route. For more information visit www.roc.org.za 

This is a CATI (Come and Try it) orienteering event, where everyone is welcome to come and try orienteering! Three (3) different courses are on offer, ranging in technical and physical difficulty. Courses are aimed at newcomers and the short course is perfect for kids and families. 

The courses are: 

Long Course for with slightly technical navigation and a distance of approximately 6kms

Middle Course is a simple introduction to orienteering with intermediate navigation and a distance of approximately 4kms

Short Green Course has easy navigation and is for completely novice orienteers, and s is a great course for family groups. The distance is approximately 2,5kms

The Red Barn day visitor entry fee is included in this event Entry fee. 

If you are entering as a group (2, 3 or 4 people), use the Merchandise option before checkout to add additional group members at R50 per person extra.  

● There will be open start times. You can choose whenever you want to start within the start time window.

● We will be using the SPORTident electronic timing system. If you don’t have a SPORTident timing chip, you will be given one to use for the event at registration.

● There is a restaurant at the venue, which will be selling food and drinks.

● Final instructions and info will be sent to entered competitors on the Friday before the event.

● Terrain: A mix of eucalyptus forest, open grassland and marshland. There is a very complex network of paths used for trail running and mountain biking.
