Welcome to the awesome sport of Orienteering - where adventure begins, skills grow, and every route tells a story.
Orienteering is competitive or non-competitive recreational hiking or running activity in which participants use a map and compass (compass is not compulsory!) to navigate between checkpoints along an unfamiliar route. For more information visit www.roc.org.za
This is a "Rogaine" style event, called "Scatter Run" event where you visit as many checkpoints as you can in your allotted time. Choose your own adventure and get as many points as you can!
How far can you run and how many points can you collect in your allotted time?
A Scatter Run, or "Rogaine" type orienteering event is where individuals or teams visit as many checkpoints as you can in the allotted time. This is a time limited event, and you chose your time limit when you enter.
The courses or time limits for entries are:
The 150 min course (can be entered Solo or as a Team of 2, 3 or 4) - Briefing at 8:20am start at 8:30am
The 90 min course (can be entered Solo or as a Team of 2, 3 or 4) - Briefing at 9:10am start at 9:20am
The 60 min course (can be entered Solo or as a Team of 2, 3 or 4) - Briefing at 9:35am start at 9:45am
As an example: If you enter the 150 min event, you will have 150 mins (or 2,5 hrs) to collect as many checkpoints as possible within that allocated time, and still get back to the finish before the time expires. Points are deducted per minute over the allocated time. Its all about planning and strategy to collect as many as possible, and still get back before your time is up.
- B’sorah consists of open rocky bushveld, some wooded/semi-wooded areas and rocky koppies with a network of tracks and paths. Navigation is moderate to tricky - a compass and leg protection are highly recommended.
- We will be using the SPORTident (SI) electronic timing system. SI chip hire is included in the entry fee.
- Toilets are available close to the parking/start/finish area.
- Refreshments will be on sale at the B'sorah caravan café.
- There will be limited water out in the area. Please arrange to carry your own for the duration of the event.
Final instructions will be sent out to all entered participants on Friday 24th July.
