🌿 WHAT TO EXPECT

The Trans Teniqua Hike is a scenic point-to-point adventure through the heart of the Outeniqua Mountains.

As we traverse this spectacular route, you'll enjoy sweeping mountain panoramas, rolling fynbos-covered slopes, crystal-clear streams, indigenous forest pockets and fascinating stories of the historic routes that once connected the Garden Route with the Klein Karoo.

The route includes a few steady climbs that reward hikers with magnificent views before descending to the beautiful Rosenhof Farm.

☕ BREAKFAST WITH A VIEW

We'll enjoy a 10-minute breakfast stop at the spectacular 4 Passes Lookout Point.

From this remarkable viewpoint we'll identify four generations of routes that crossed the Outeniqua Mountains:

🛞 Cradock Pass (1817) – The original wagon road.

🛣️ Montagu Pass (1847) – Thomas Bain's beautifully engineered gravel pass.

🚂 Outeniqua Railway Pass (1913) – The historic railway route with its tunnels and bridges.

🛣️ Outeniqua Pass (1951) – The modern mountain pass linking George with the Klein Karoo.

Standing at one viewpoint and seeing over 200 years of transport history unfold across the mountains is one of the true highlights of this hike.

🍽️ AFTER THE HIKE

Our adventure concludes at the beautiful Rosenhof Farm, where hikers are welcome to relax and enjoy a delicious lunch before boarding the shuttle back to Hawthorne Hotel.

🍴 Lunch is optional and for each hiker's own account.

🚌 Shuttle departs between 13:00 and 13:15.

Please bring the normal compulsory and optional Safety & Gear required for our hikes.

🦺 ROAD SAFETY – OUR PRIORITY

Your safety is our highest priority.

💛 Please wear at least one bright neon item (shirt, jacket, cap, buff or safety vest) to improve your visibility to motorists.

🚶 Throughout the hike, everyone must walk on the RIGHT-HAND side of the road, staying within the yellow shoulder line wherever possible.

👥 Please hike in single file whenever instructed and always follow the guidance of the hike leaders.

🚗 Be alert for passing vehicles, cyclists and other road users. By remaining visible and predictable, we help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
