Join us for a beautiful 10 km circular hike through the forest area around the Garden Route Dam in George.

This scenic route offers a wonderful opportunity to slow down, enjoy the forest and discover an array of fascinating fungi along the way. 🍄🌿

With approximately 180 m of total elevation, this is rated as an easy hike (3/10) — although you should be reasonably fit and comfortable covering the full 10 km distance.

Keep your eyes open along the route!

The forest around the Garden Route Dam is home to a fascinating variety of fungi, and this hike gives us the chance to appreciate some of these often-overlooked treasures of the forest.

📸 Bring your camera or phone if you enjoy photographing nature — there should be plenty to spot!

🎒 WHAT TO BRING

Essential items for all our hikes:

• Lightweight hydration pack, backpack or hip pouch
• Sufficient water / hydration
• Sunscreen
• Hat / headgear
• Suitable non-slip hiking shoes
• Snacks
• Lightweight windproof jacket
• Fleece / mid-layer depending on the weather
• Your own small emergency kit — bandage, petroleum jelly, blister plasters, etc.

Optional:

• Fingerless gloves
• Hiking poles
• Beanie
• Buff
• Sunglasses

📍 MEETING POINT

We meet close to the Garden Route Dam.

Take the no-name gravel road towards the Garden Route Dam, close to the corners of Arthur Bleksley and Stander Streets, Eden, George.

Turn onto the gravel road and continue past the security kiosk for a few hundred metres. As soon as you can see the dam, look for a suitable shady area to park.
