Trail Run – Route Description
25km(CHIEFS) & 17km(INDIANS)
Starting from the Glaskasteel, runners will have approximately 1km to shuffle the pack before hitting a lovely piece of single track. Rolling gently, most of you will feel the urge to hit the gas hard right from the start, BUT, beware, it might come to sting you later on. At km 2.7, turning RIGHT, the CHIEFS(25km runners) go up the mountain for their first exam whilst the INDIANS(16km runners) carry on straight. Soon turning LEFT after about 150m of ascent, you will get the PULPIT in sight – a well known famous landmark in our area. The next 7km(rejoining the INDIANS at km 6.7km) will have them galloping and doing cartwheels and all sorts of silly stuff – nature is calling because “the hills are alive!” The second test starts then with about 250m of ascent, somewhat of a tester… but rather “smell the roses” or should I say “fynbos”… it’s simply breathtaking! A short reprieve of 3 km(make sure to follow the signs as at km 12.3 the CHIEFS go straight while the INDIANS turn right) will bring you to km 16.3 where you will report for exam C… the testing and much anticipated Bredasdorp Gorge… a brilliant almost kloofing section!
This is a very exciting section that will be the final challenge of the day as it will now test both the legs and upper body strength up, over and under various obstacles as you now start to climb about 183m over a distance of 1.6km. To add to the adrenaline rush an element of water will also play a part and runners are warned against slippery conditions in places. When the thick vegetation finally opens up, the trail will bring you to a T where you will turn LEFT, now on fairly flat and gently rolling terrain – time for the speedsters to switch on the diesel motors once again. With views down mountainsides both left and right now runners will have a hard time concentrating as the scenery is something to behold. At the 18.5 km sign, the CHIEFS will carry on STRAIGHT and the 17km INDIANS will turn LEFT.
The CHIEFS will now enter an area atop the mountain that will bring into sight Bredasdorp to the left and 270° views to the right towards Struisbaai, L’Agulhas & Elim. A fast twisting downhill section, all on single track will take you to the backend of Heuningberg. The rest of the trail towards the finish will boast more of the same fantastic views, surprises and excitement – believe me you will be in awe! Plse just follow the signs as the INDIANS can be some kind of a nuisance and interacts a lot :) :) :) After 23km in on the long route, the CHIEFS meet up again with the 17km INDIANS and share the remainder of the route until the finish.
Extra Notes for the 17km INDIANS

At km 2.7, the INDIANS(17km runners) carry on STRAIGHT ( the CHIEFS-25km runners turn right and go up the mountain) Turning RIGHT only at the 3.4 km sign, the INDIANS will now perform their first exam! After the first climb and joining the CHIEFS(25km runners) for the next 6.5kms, they will enjoy lovely ups and downs, crossing 2 little streams, all the while zig-zagging through beautiful fynbos. A lovely section along an escarpment will bring them to their 10km sign where they will turn RIGHT. 3 more interactions with the CHIEFS, sharing and crossing the routes will bring them to km 14 where they meet up again with the 25km CHIEFS and will share the remainder of the trail until they finish - CHIEFS however will enjoy full freedom of the route and subsequently all INDIANS will jump out of the way when ordered so by a CHIEF :)....just joking, good manners will prevail but NO HOLDUPS please, thank you!

8 KM LITTLE ONES
To become a hero it sometimes starts when you’re young...so this one is for the BRAVES & the GALS...our little warriors!
Dress up if you want to - will be so much more fun. After 2.7km they all go up a mountain and from the top it is just down, down, down. Beautiful views along beautiful singletrack will bring you back at the finish in a flash - too quick but oh so lekke - kids are gonna enjoy this - have fun!

• The organizers take no responsibility if route markers have gone missing thus leading to confusion for runners - circumstances will be thoroughly investigated
• Substitutions will be accepted
• The Race will take place regardless of bad weather and will only be cancelled, re-routed or stopped for reasons of safety. In such cases, results will be issued at the discretion of the organisers
• All photographic or video material of participants made by the organisers or their assignees during any activity deemed to be part of the Trail Running Challenge, shall be free for use by the organisers in any matter relating to the event at any time in the present or future
• First over the line wins
• Riders must be in attendance at the prize giving or forfeit prizes
