Friday Evening Family 5km Night Fun Run

Bring your head torch and join the family fun run! Yes, it is open to anyone and everyone! An easy route takes you out of the race village onto a single track past the Dumbe Chalets before a short little climb leads you to the Kaalvoet Vrou Monument and back to the race village where you can enjoy a hot shower!
*Note: The fun run will not be timed, just a fun addition for the family and not compulsory!

Day 1: 21km, 605m ascent

The first day of running starts runners off with a scenic stretch of single track, running along the escarp, boasting spectacular views of KZN. Before long, the drop down the historic Retief Pass begins into the Valley, leading runners onto the magical tracks of Ali’s avenue before starting the ascent up the iconic Solly’s Folly. The long climb ends soon enough where after runners pass through the wild proteas of Kirstenbosch, running along the escarpment once again with its breathtaking views before reaching the Kaalvoet Vrou Monument. After taking a selfie with arguably one of the toughest ladies in the history of our country, it is a short stretch home to the race village where warm hospitality awaits…

Day 2: 15km, 482m ascent

Day two of running will certainly not disappoint the single track lover, leading runners along breathtaking paths. Runners start off with a steady climb along a ridgeline to the highest point of the day, providing stunning panoramic views of the Central and Northern Drakensberg. Unsurpassed views of the Amphitheatre will continue to mesmerize runners as they drop steadily down Dragon’s Spine towards Oom Pieter se Bos, a magical forest section. Spectacular views of the Drakensberg and Maluti Mountains remains a focal point as the road winds on along the lower ridges towards Vergezient Falls. Runners work their way around the Lost Pools to the beautiful Picnic Rock before a steep ascend up the Cattle Pass takes them to Old Trails View along the beautiful escarp and back to the race village.
