Franschhoek in the Western Cape is famous among overseas tourists for world-class wine and mouth-watering cuisine in a setting so lush you would think it is made for royalty. There is also a very well-kept secret amongst the nobles of the land, and that is the Mont Rochelle Reserve. Set above the town the Reserve features mountain peaks so tough they will be sure to make you wish you were running on the Sea Point Promenade instead, once you get to the top, though, the views will quickly make you forget all the suffering as you look out across the Franschhoek valley. Flowing single track that seems to go on forever will suck you in and leave you counting the days till you can come back to this special part of the world.
The route tackles two of the most prominent peaks, namely Perdekop and DuToitsKop. The 22km route will give you about 1400m of vertical ascent and about the same in descent. Starting and finishing at the world-famous Haute Cabriere, spectators and supporters will be treated to a royal welcome and are sure to enjoy the day with food, award-winning wine, and beer available on site.

New to this year's event is the Altra VK:
Vertical Kilometer® racing has been around since 1994 so you are probably no stranger to the concept. This event is for those who really like to challenge themselves to see how fast they can push themselves. Starting at Haute Cabriere runners will race to the top of DuToitsKop which will give them a gain of 1028m in 6.5km. Runners will be timed to the summit of the Peak and the men's and ladies winner will be crowned according to whoever runs the fastest time. Once your time has been taken at the summit you can make your way down to the finish (just watch out for runners still racing up) or you can have a friend collect you from the Mont Rochelle gate. Remember to save some energy for the 22km main race on Sunday morning. The timing window will be open from 09h30 till 14h30 so make sure you get your time in before the cutoff.
