Planet Concepts brings you the inaugural African Centurion Walk – proudly hosted at the world-famous Robben Island, a South African National Heritage site symbolic of triumph of the human spirit over adversity.

Walking 100 miles in 24 hours is not an everyday achievement but a challenge that only a few in the world can achieve. This world-wide phenomenon started in Britain in 1911, and has taken place in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Malaysia, the Isle of Man and the Netherlands. South Africa will be the first African country to host a Centurion event.

Upon completion of the walk each participant is awarded a Centurion walker number that will stay theirs for life. This never-to-be-repeated number is both a symbol and a badge of recognition – and this is the only time ever that you'll be able to get a number in the top 10.

Robben Island has been home to many prisoners who fought for the liberation of South Africa. A prison number was a form of distinction and identification given to prisoners. Apart from the memories ex-prisoners retain of their time on the island, their prison number is what they hold as remembrance: a unique number that encapsulates their journeys through unbelievable hardship.

A unique aspect of the African Centurion is the team relay, which allows teams of four to complete the walk as one – a symbol of Ubuntu. This challenge is ideal for team-building, corporates, families and friends.
