Race Description
Mountain Bike and Trail Running Challenge
Move your feet for a great cause at the 8th annual Java MTB & Trail Challenge which will take place on Saturday 10 October at Van Loveren Family Vineyards in the picturesque Robertson valley.
This fun-filled and family-friendly sporting event not only promises a unique experience with spectacular views of the valley and vineyards, but also rewards all who finish with medals. Furthermore, enticing food and beverages, a bar stocked with all your Van Loveren favourites (only over 18s) and amazing lucky draw prizes will be on offer.
Route Descriptions
- 6km MTB 50m elevation | 1 water point | Route colour - Pink
An easy, non-technical fun ride suitable for small children. Parents are welcome to join.
- 20km MTB 250m elevation | 1 water point | Route colour - Orange
Ideal for beginners, consisting mostly of jeep tracks with some single track. Not too technical.
- 45km MTB 850m elevation | 2 water points | Route colour - Blue
Suitable for intermediate riders with stamina and a moderate fitness level.
- The 65km MTB 1400m elevation | 3 water points | Route colour - Red
A gruelling route for the adrenalin seekers. Includes many sections of the 2018 ABSA Cape Epic route as well as virgin territory & custom-built single tracks. Perfect training for the upcoming Wines2Whales & To Hell and Back MTB events.
- 10km Fun TR 200m elevation | 2 water points (1 of them self-serve) | Route colour – Green
Takes place over rugged, yet scenic terrain, crossing the confluence of two rivers.
- 15km Xtreme TR 400m elevation | 3 water points (1 of them self-serve) | Route colour -Yellow
A route for the thrill-seeking runners. Full of action and accompanied by stunning scenery.

Please Note: The 20km MTB and 45km MTB are the only MTB distances forming a part of the Under 18’s Challenge. Entrants in the Nipper, Sprog, Sub Junior, Youth and Junior age categories entering the 20km MTB and 45km MTB will compete under this section.

Age Restrictions
- Junior: 17 – 18: May enter: 6km MTB, 20km MTB, 45km MTB, 10km TR, 15km TR
- Youth: 15 – 16: May enter: 6km MTB, 20km MTB, 45km MTB, 10km TR,15km TR (16+ yrs)
- Sub Junior: 13 – 14: May enter: 6km MTB, 20km MTB, 10km TR
- Sprog: 11 – 12: May enter: 6km MTB, 20km MTB, 10km TR
- Nipper: 8 – 10: May enter: 6km MTB, 20km MTB, 10km TR
Online Race pre-entry from April until 5 Oct 2020 at midnight
Pre-entries will only be available online. Another opportunity to enter (at late entry rates) will be available to anyone who has missed the online entry deadline on 9 October 2020 in the Van Loveren Tasting Room as well as on the morning of the event.
Note: Upon entering online, a race entry confirmation mail will be sent onto you. This must be printed out and brought with to the event in order for you to be registered. If you did not get an entry confirmation email upon entering, contact Grevile Ruddock on [email protected]
