Weekend Warrior DIY Series
Overberg MTB Events – organisers of the Stanford MTB Classic, the Greyt Escape and the De Hoop Vlei MTB Experience – are hosting a series of Do It Yourself events. The aim of which is to encourage you to get out, into the Overberg, ride the trails the company’s races take place on and support the small businesses in the areas the races visit.
But you don’t have to ride in Stanford, Greyton or De Hoop Nature Reserve. You can take part anywhere you like. Outside, on the trails or road, or indoors on a trainer. It’s your race, done at your pace, with you in charge of timing. Best of all it’s free to enter; though a R250 raffle ticket will double your chances of winning the lucky draw. Ride wherever you can on the 29th and 30th of August, 5th and 6th of September, and the 12th and 13th of September – joining in the fun from anywhere in the world.
All you’ll need to do is enter online, via Entry Ninja, select a date you’ll be riding. You will simply need to ride the distance of your choosing and record it to Strava. Entry Ninja will email you to link your Strava account in order to be considered an Overberg MTB Events Weekend Warrior.
Extra kudos is given to anyone who rides the activity on an Overberg MTB Events suggested trail network. These trails include favourites from events like the Stanford MTB Classic, Greyt Escape and De Hoop Vlei MTB Experience. Choose from the De Hoop Nature Reserve, Stanford Valley-Beloftebos, Greyton, Wildekrans, Oak Valley & Paul Cluver, Hemel en Aarde Valley or Klipspringer MTB trails.
Get out there and make the most of the great outdoors, or ride from the comfort of your home. As long as you are riding your bike.
The how-to of DIY:
- Enter the event
- Choose your distance selected and ride on the dates of the particular event.
- Respond to the auto-generated Entry Ninja email after the date with your ride’s STRAVA file.
- Check your results on the Entry Ninja platform after the event.
- Hold thumbs that you are the lucky draw winner!
Rules of the Race:
For the OMTB Weekend Warrior DIY Series, you need to complete ONE of the events, any distance, to be eligible for the lucky draw at the end of all the series. The draw will take place after all the results are in for the final event date, on the 13th of September. By entering the series, you stand the chance to win a two-night stay, for you and a partner, at the beautiful Stanford Valley Guest Farm. Nestled in the Klein Rivier valley the farm is renowned for its friendly hospitality, efficient staff and top-class restaurant, the Manor House. You can double your chances to win by purchasing a R250 raffle ticket.
Support Local
If you can, please, support the local accommodation, restaurants and coffee shops during the Overberg MTB Events Weekend Warrior DIY Challenge. While Gretyon and Stanford are an easy drive from Cape Town/Stellenbosch/Somerset West you may still want to stay over if you choose to ride there. De Hoop Nature Reserve is perfectly located for a weekend away, just a bit out of range for a day-trip. All three destinations have far more to offer than just superb mountain biking, so take your family and make a weekend of it.

Route information | A virtual race is a race that can be cycled from any location you choose. You can ride on the road or on trails or on a traditional trainer. You get to ride your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself. The virtual challenge series is NOT restricted to any specific region/country. We are encouraging routes in the Overberg area, mainly to keep our local riders supporting events and destinations. We are inviting you to enter from ANY part of the world, and would be fantastic to see the results uploaded on Strava to see where you are participating from. For Western Cape riders: The idea of the Weekend Warrior Challenge is to get you out into the Overberg, making use of the lifting of restrictions on leisure travel. We have a number of suggested routes which are within an easy drive from Cape Town/Stellenbosch/Somerset-West, or you can get creative and do your own thing. Entrants register online and simply choose the route of their choice. What you need to do:
