The Old Edwardian Athletics Club presents the first leg of the Joburg Vitality Virtual Run Series to be held under the auspices of Central Gauteng Athletics.   Entrants have the choice of running their own virtual route or running a virtual 5k, 10k and 21.k  route from the Old Edwardian Society (Old Eds) grounds.  Entries for virtual runs from the Old Eds grounds are limited to comply with various regulations

Entrants running from the Old Eds grounds will be required to select a 20 minute starting slot between 6am and 9am on either the Saturday or the Sunday.

Starting slots will have runner thresholds to comply with Covid-19 regulations. Virtual runs from the Old Eds grounds will be unsupported with no waterpoints. Please note that should the country remain on level 4 beyond the 7/8th August you will only have the option of running your own virtual route and will no longer be able to run from the club.

Every-day traffic rules will apply.

Once runners are done they will be required to upload their time through the provided STRAVA link or submit a manual time to the race portal.  Failure to do this will lead to the entrant's name not appearing on the results.

A portion of the proceeds will go towards Utano, the Club's Development partner. Entrants are encouraged to support one of our chosen charities.

Due to the nature of the event, there will be no prize money.

Entries will close on Thursday the 5th of August 2021 or when they are sold out.

Route information

A virtual race is a race that can be run, walked or cycled from any location you choose. You get to complete your own race, at your own pace, within the time frame as stipulated by your particular event.

There are no parking problems, no crowds and no long Porta Potty lines. There is no start gun or nervous, pre-race chitchat with other athletes. There's not even an official starting line!

That's the kind of flexibility offered by virtual races, a new trend in the running and cycling community. Athletes who sign up for a virtual race register online and simply choose their route of choice. Once you are finished times can be uploaded via various timing apps as provided by your event organiser. Details of the timing app and how it works will be mailed to all participants closer to race day.
