Bloutrein Hiking Trail - Slackpack - Weekend

Two close neighboring friends, Christia Newbery (Wathaba Hiking Trails) and Pieter Wessels (High Five Hiking Trails) started a brand new, water rich hiking trail between Bloubos Retreat on Wathaba and Pongola Express Railway Coach that forms a part of High Five Hiking Trails.  This trail gives a new dimension to this spectacular piece of earth which every hiker, who even knows the area well, will appreciate and enjoy anew.

Distance of trail: It is a 2-day overnight hike

Saturday - Day 1 is 9km from Bloubos Retreat to Pongola Express

Sunday - Day 2 is 5km back to Bloubos Retreat

Accommodation: Maximum of 10 hikers. 

Both types of accommodation have electricity and fully equipped kitchens with fridge and stove.

Bloubos Retreat has a “donkey” geyser for hot water, firewood is inclusive for your night at Bloubos.

Bloubos has two rooms with 4 single beds each. 

At Pongola Express you might have to share the kitchen and other facilities with other groups.

Sleeping compartments sleeps 2 - 4 people. Depending what's available. No cell signal at pongola.

Wathaba Hiking Trails was awarded the Best Trail for 2007, 2012, 2015 and 2017

Hiking Trails : Total 14km over 2 days

Friday - Arrival Day from 3pm

Saturday - Guided Trail: 9km via waterfalls and pools to Pongola

Sunday - Guided Trail: 5km back to Bloubos.

Transport Optional : Additional - Return (Pick Up Point - Centurion or Midrand Gautrain 10am)
