Glencairn Events
At Glencairn Trail Run, we aim to create a true celebration of trail running and the outdoors. Whether you are a seasoned runner seeking a true test or a beginner looking to discover some of the areas beautiful views, Glencairn offers the opportunity for all. There are 3 different events to take part in. The 2 day Glencairn Ram Run (approx 18kms per day), The Glencairn Lamb Run (approx. 9kms per day) and our newest event the Glencairn Mountain Marathon, a 43km ultra trail run that takes runners from Bulwer to Glencairn Farm. The routes will take you up alongside the Drakensberg mountains, through dairy pastures, wind through forest trails and meander alongside pristine mountain rivers.
But it’s not just about the run. From the moment you arrive you’ll be greeted by a festive atmosphere filled with live music, yoga classes, delicious food and more. So lace up your running shoes, gather your friends and join us for a unforgettable weekend packed with adventure and the joy of being outdoors.

ENTRY FEE
We have the following options available to our runners:
1) Full Package = R 3250.00
- Glencairn tent (tent will be erected for you & a comfy mattress provided)
2) Outside Stay = R 3050.00
- This will be for runners choosing to stay outside of Glencairn Race Village at alternative accommodation
3) Glencairn Mountain Marathon Full Package =R 3250.00
- Glencairn tent (tent will be erected for you & a comfy mattress provided)
4) Glencairn Mountain Marathon Outside Stay = R 3050.00
- This will be for runners choosing to stay outside of Glencairn Race Village at alternative accommodation
5) Glencairn Mountain Marathon. RUN ONLY = R 1000.00
- This will be for runners choosing to stay outside of Glencairn Race Village at alternative accommodation and not eat any of the meals either.
WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE

WHAT DOES IT INCLUDES
- 2 nights accommodation: We will supply supporters with their own tent and mattresses. You are welcome to share tents should you wish. The tents are plenty big enough for two adults. (2.4m x 2.4m)
- 6 meals: Your supporter’s package includes all meals from supper on Friday to lunch on Sunday.
- Showers & toilets: Glencairn has proper showers with hot water guaranteed 24/7. Plenty of real, airy, flush toilets are a permanent fixture at Glencairn so there is no need for you to start practicing to hold your breath!
- Chill area: The main barn at Glencairn will act as the chill area. The pub, 24hr tea and coffee station and the relaxation lounges will be found in this area. This will be the hub of the race village and various post run activities will happen in or around this area. The supporters package will allow you to enjoy this area with the runners.
- Afternoon activities and entertainment: You are welcome to join all the activities planned after the run.
- Medics : There will be on-site medics for the duration of the event.
- 24 hour security
- REMEMBER: Please don’t forget to bring your own towel, favorite pillow and a warm sleeping bag. Or better still a sheet and duvet. Remember you in the berg so things can get chilly.
CHILDREN’S PACKAGE: R 1330.00
We encourage families to bring their children along. There will be someone watching over the children while you run.
As the race village for Glencairn is on a sheep farm there is plenty of space for the children to run around. They can bring their bicycles along and can ride around the farm area.
During previous Glencairn Trail Run events, some of the children have decided while staying at the event to enter and run a day of the Lamb Run. You can enter at the event for R300.00 per day.
The cost is R1330.00 per child under 12 years old which includes all 6 meals from Friday night dinner to Sunday lunch. It also includes accommodation in our canvas tents. Should you have two or more children they will be allocated a tent to share. Any child 13 years and older will need to purchase a normal supporters package which is R2200.00 for the weekend.
NB: PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A DAM ON THE FARM AND THE CHILDREN AND PARENTS MUST BE MADE AWARE OF IT.
REGISTRATION
Registration will be held at Glencairn Farm. Registration will open at 15:00 on Friday afternoon and close at 20:00. You will receive your race packs, tent numbers and your village band. Dinner will be available to all runners (except Mountain Marathon Run Only Package). If you are coming up early Saturday you can register from 6:00am.
ROUTE DESCRIPTION
The Glencairn Trail Run has three events catering for different abilities. The original two day events are “The Ram Run” which is the longer distance event (Day 1: 18km, Day 2: 17km) and “The Lamb Run” (Day 1: 8km, Day 2: 10.2km) is the shorter distance event. Both distances provide a unique mix of terrain with a couple of technical sections that everyone will enjoy.
Our newest addition is “The Glencairn Mountain Marathon” which is a single stage run on the Saturday. It is 42kms running from Bulwer, across the exquisite Marwaqa mountain range to Glencairn Farm. This event will be for those wanting to push themselves further and enjoy a good day out on the legs.
We have spent a lot of time on the route to ensure that it will captivate all runners to provide them with a special running experience.
ACCOMMODATION
Each runner will be given a four-person canvas tent (2.5m x 2.5m) all for themselves with a comfortable mattress. You will be required to bring your own sleeping bag and pillow.

Should you wish to not camp in the race village you can book accommodation anywhere in or around Himeville, Sani Pass or Underberg.
BATCHES
Day 1 will be batched by SA Seeding based on past Glencairn Trail Run results and other races you have completed. Day 2’s batch will all depend on your Day 1 performance. Should you wish to run with your friends you are welcome to move down into their batch. They cannot move up into yours.
