Please note;

  1. All Westen Cape XCO Cup series and Championship’s will cater for all age categories from Nipper to Grand Master. 
  2. All SA XCO Cup and Championship events will cater for age categories from Sub Junior – Elite, A Vets category rider is permitted to race in the Elite Category his he/she is in possession of a CSA Racing Licence.
  3. An updated Provincial Colours Criteria will be published on the WP Cycling website in due course. https://www.wpcycling.com/mtb/

Western Cape XCO TEAM COMPETION RULES

We are pleased to announce the introduction of the Western Cape XCO Team competition for 2024 WESTERN CAPE XCO CUP SERIES & CHAMPIONSHIPS. The team competition will consist of two (2) categories:>  Open and Youth.

Youth Category will comprise of riders from the following categories: Nipper, Sprog and Sub Junior.

Open Category will comprise of riders from any age group from Nipper to Gr Master.

Rules:

  1. This competition is open to all Cycling Academies, Schools, clubs, or a group of friends.
  2. Competition events will consist of 4 Western Cape XCO Cups and the Western Cape XCO Championships
  3. The winning team will be the team with the most points at the end of the five events. In the event of a tie, the team with the most 1st place positions will be declared the winner, following that the team with the most 2nd place positions and following that the most 3rd place positions.
  4. A rider may only be a member of one team.
  5. A team must consist of 6 riders.
  6. All six riders’ point will count towards the teams point total. 
  7. Girls / Women riders point will count double points. ie. 110 Log points = 220 Team Points.
  8. Team members remain the same for the entire competition, no substitutions will be allowed during the competition.
  9. Great prizes will be awarded to the winning teams at the Western Cape Awards Ceremony for 2024.

CSA MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

Please Note:>>> For riders to earn XCO Series Log points and XCO Ranking Points, it is a requirement to have a current CSA Membership, on the day of the race, as detailed here below. Riders without a current membership on the race date do not earn any points.

All riders taking part require one of the following:

Full Racing License

This category of license is for riders from the age of 17-years-old who wish to be eligible for provincial and national selection and respective colours award. The bearer of a full license is entitled to partake in national championships or series race and be seeded accordingly. Those of who race in the UCI categories (Junior, U23 and Elite) earn UCI points, which will assist them in being seeded at future UCI category events, UCI World Cups and UCI World Championships. The cost of a full racing license is R450 per year, and the applicant has to be member of an affiliated club, as well as be a registered member of Cycling SA. These MUST be done simultaneously for a Full Racing License to be valid. Full Racing Licenses are only valid from 1 January to 31 December each year.

Cycling South Africa Membership

A membership holder is entitled to enter any event, irrespective of discipline, without having to purchase a day license. A member is allowed to participate in a national series event but will not be eligible for national or provincial selection. A membership of Cycling SA is the most basic form of license and is an agreement of the rider to abide by the rules of the event in which they participate. A Cycling SA membership can be renewed on a 12-monthly cycle.

Youth membership

The Youth membership fee will be R150, and will be introduced from 1 November 2018 for riders aged 16 years and younger! Youth are able to participate in national and provincial championships and series on a membership only. As per a normal Cycling SA membership, Youth will also receive full access to Hollard Insurance Company medical assistance cover, access to Road Cover RAF claims management system, and other membership benefits as stipulated below.

Day License

The Day-license is designed to allow the absolute newcomers of the sport to participate within the rules and regulations of the sport. These participants, who do not hold a full license or membership, need to purchase a day license. By purchasing a day license the rider agrees to participate in the event and abide with the rules of the event and those of Cycling SA for that day. A day license costs R50 and is only valid for one day.
