HIKE THE VINES SOCIAL HIKE @ DELHEIM IN SUPPORT OF THE SIMONSBERG CONSERVANCY
On Sunday the 11th of February 2024 we will host our 2nd Social Hike The Vines. This time around we will hike at the spectacular Delheim Wines near Stellenbosch.
The hike will be a distance of approximately 10km. You will hike a section on a gravel road through the vineyards before heading into some amazing single track through Fynbos towards the turning point of the Simonsberg mountain. At the top the most amazing views of the Boland and Table Mountain will await you. At the turning point we will serve you with a glass of Delheim Wine, Coke and snacks. After your refreshments its downhill back towards Delheim through the most amazing single track in the Pine Forest towards the restaurant area at Delheim.
The restaurant at Delheim Wines came on board to make sure that you get that Delhiem experience after your run. Hikers will have the option to make a choice between three delicious meals. Your meal can be ordered online with your entry. If you book a meal online they will then make sure that you have a table at the restaurant. If you do not book a meal it will then work on a 1st come 1st serve basis. It might be that they are fully booked so please book your meal if you know that you will stay after your hike.
The Greater Simonsberg Conservancy
The hike at Delheim is in aid of The Greater Simonsberg Conservancy (GSC) in support of its continued conservation efforts in the Klapmuts Hill and Simonsberg area. GSC employs a full-time conservation officer who supports its members in achieving their conservation goals.
“The GSC is situated in an area that has precious fragments of critically endangered Swartland Shale Renosterveld and Mountain Fynbos. Where there is a wide variety of fauna and flora, including the Cape Leopard (sighted on Tokara Wine Farm), critically endangered Serruria pinnata, endangered Aristea lugens and 300 year old yellow wood forest (Podocarpus elongates) on Klapmutskop.” *
“The GSC is one of the few conservancies in the Western Cape that is actively managed by a Conservation Officer and it seeks to deliver professional conservation services to its members and aims to transform this unique part of the Cape Winelands into a pristine natural landscape, which will hopefully become an iconic eco-tourism route for the wider community to enjoy and benefit from.” *
