MONTAGU GRAVEL & GRIT FESTIVAL 2024
MONTAGU has it all in terms of outdoor activities, the gateway to the Klein Karoo and also it is here where the Klein Karoo Gravel Corridor starts. This makes Montagu the heartbeat of outdoor adventures.
Makadas Adventures in cooperation with MATA (Montagu Ashton Tourism), Flying Feet & Glen Eden Guest Farm brings you a fun filled weekend in the great outdoors. Gravel cycling, Mountain biking, Night Hike and Trail Running are some of the activities of the weekend.
Then there are activities for the kiddies, wine tasting for the non riders, lots to drink and eat. Saturday night party with the Lucky Draw Prize giving.

Sunset Hike Walk
Start the weekend on the right foot with a sunset walk with views over the Langeberge while the sun is setting, bring a headlamp and walk into the dark on a trail with reflective markings. This walk is suitable for young and old and meant to get you into the weekend vibe. Food and drink will be on sale at Glen Eden's Beany Peanut Licensed Bar and Pizzeria. We will have something special for the kiddies out on the route.

More options this year with three distances to choose from: 55km | 100km | 140km

55km Fun Gravel Ride
Also take note that there is a School's Challenge on this year at a reduced rate for learners. The 55km Gravel Fun Ride will be used for the School's Challenge and prizes for the 1st/2nd & 3rd men and ladies riders in. Total climb: 811m
100km Gravel Race
The route for the 100km event traverses the stunning Africa Game Lodge and you will be spoiled to magnificent views and many different types of game: Eland, Kudu, Gemsbuck, Giraffe etc. This route consists of multiple types of terrain. See the Makadas website for a breakdown. Total climb: 1558m
140km Gravel Race
This route had some minor changes and with the help from the riders from SALT and SQUIRT we were able fine tune it to make it more feasible for gravel bikes. See route bread down on the Makadas website Total climb: 1953m
Kapokbos Trail & Fun Run
Eriocephalus africanus L./Wild Rosemary or Kapbokbos the name was chosen for this very special shrub that grows where the run is held and you will recognize it by its sweet vanilla smell.
Terrain: hilly single track with magnificent views of the Langeberg mountain range. This is the first time that an event is held here on Glen Eden and Rietvlei Holiday farm and you will wonder why, as the trails have existed for +/- 20 years. The event is set on stunning trails with magnificent views and scenery. The event is organized by Patti van Dyk, a nature guide of the profession and an experienced ultra runner, with big event names such as Comrades and Two Oceans behind her name. Patti has also tapped into trail running since a few years ago. Patti's passions in life include nature and living a healthy lifestyle. Medals to all Finishers!
