South Africa's ONLY Women's Mile swim continues for its 4th year in 2024! This year our Annual Women's Day swim The Simon's Bay Mile returns but with a changed date of Saturday 31st August 2024. With the Summer Olympics taking place in Paris the Swim Cape Town team will be there to take in the action and support our South African Olympians. The 2024 swim also sees a slight change in venue with the new start and finish being from The Simon's Town Waterfront! With thanks to STADCO for making this possible and to Bertha's Restaurant for hosting us, we look forward to enjoying the local hospitality.
This Simon's Bay Mile brings together Women young and old to share their love of Open Water Swimming and the Ocean. The Simon's Bay Mile swim takes place in the picturesque Simon's Bay in Simon's Town. Simon's Town is a small coastal town in the south of Cape Town situated along the False Bay coastline on the southern part of the Cape Peninsula. Simon's Town is steeped in maritime history and home to many popular tourist attractions including the world-famous Boulders Beach with its Penguins.
The Simon's Bay Mile starts and finishes at the Simon's Town Waterfront with swimmers completing a 1 Mile / 1609m looped course of Simon's Bay against the backdrop of the Simon's Town mountains and resident South African Navy ships. Swimmers will pass by the kelp forests of Simon's Bay where they may be treated to glimpses of either the resident short-tailed Stingrays or small Puffadder shy-sharks that call this area home.
Swimmers must remember to wear a brightly coloured swim cap of either Pink, Yellow, Green, Red or Orange. All Junior Swimmers will receive a FREE Simon's Bay Mile swim cap! There will be category prizes also for the Top 3 Swimmers in Open Skins and Wetsuits along with the top 3 Junior Swimmers!
NOTE: Swimmers Under 13 may also enter ONLY if they are able to provide proof of Open Water Swimming competency through either a Lifesaving South Africa Level 2 Nipper (Under 11 and Under 12) or a Level 3 Nipper (Under 13 and Under 14) Award. All under 13 swimmers must supply their own Lifeguard Support on paddle board (must be currently LSA registered).
