The Old George Dam 12,5km Hike is a beautiful circular route with approximately 368m elevation. We will pause for a midway stop to have a picnic at the old dam, from where we'll follow the trail back in a clockwise direction along ferns, fynbos, cycads and the Swartrivier!
Difficulty is rated 5/10 for a hike looking at elevation & distance and you have to be able to cover the said distance.
👉🏻 List of compulsary items required for all our hikes:
🌰 Suitable lightweight hydration-/backpack/hip pouch
🌰 Hydration/bottled water
🌰 Sunscreen
🌰 Hat/head gear
🌰 Suitable non-slip shoes (Off road shoes. Normal sneakers/road running shoes are NOT suitable)
🌰 Snacks
🌰 Lightweight windproof jacket
🌰 Fleece/midlayer depending the weather
🌰 Your own emergency items, such as bandage, small petroleum jelly, blister plasters, etc
✨ Optional items:
Fingerless gloves, hiking poles, beanie, buffs, sunglasses.
♡ We can park safely at the Access gate to the Old WTW by the Reservoir, at the top of 9th Avenue in Denneoord George.

| Route information | From the top of York Street in George, turn left at the roundabout onto Courtney Street/N12/N9. After 60m, turn right onto Caledon Street. Proceed for 1,1km and then turn right onto Berg Street. After 500m turn left onto Kerk Street. After 1km, turn left onto 9th Avenue. Proceed to the top of 9th avenue and you will find a place to park at the entrance to the access gate of the Old WTW. |
