A hiking weekend in Stellenbosch consisting of a short Intro: Bergpad Route; 4,5 km,135m elevation, 1,5 hours on the first day, a mountain peak; Sterrekykerskop Circuit on the next (First and second Waterfall in Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, Sterrekykerskop, Swartboskloof route) 15km, 953m elevation, 7 hours and an out and back: Stellenboschberg peak; 12,5km, 1095m elevation, 6,5hours route on the last day.

Day 1, Intro: The Bergpad Route for a good taste of Stellenbosch's outdoors!

Bergpad Route 4,5km Hike, 135m elevation, 2 hours

This trail is being praised as having “beautiful views” and pleasant natural surroundings along the trail: Forest patches, wildflowers / fynbos, and the occasional glimpse of the landscape beyond. 

Plus, one of the top “sights” along the route is the Ertjieskloof Dam / Reservoir, which adds a lovely water-backdrop and photo opportunity!

The loop format, moderate pace, and natural beauty combine to make this trail a great intro hike and to meet your fellow hikers who are also in for the Stellies Summit Siege.

Day 2 of the Stellies Summit Siege:

Sterrekykerskop 1222m, 15km, 953m elevation, 7hours

This amazing route with mezmerizing views from the top, takes us in an anti-clockwise direction to the summit via First and Second Waterfall in Jonkershoek Nature Reserve. From Sterrekykerskop peak we'll follow the Swartboskloof route back to the start.

6am Hike starts

DAY 3, the last day of the Stellies Summit Siege:

Stellenboschberg Peak 1175m, 12,5km, 1095m elevation, 6hours

Let's conquer the summit of Stellenboschberg together! The Stellenboschberg route is one of the quieter, more rewarding mountain outings above Stellenbosch, offering a balance of accessibility and proper mountain feel.

This is a moderate to challenging outing depending on fitness; expect steady climbing. Mostly singletrack with sections of rocky, uneven footing. Exposed areas with little shade, so don't forget the sunblock!

The mountain is open and expansive, giving you a constant sense of gaining height.

As you ascend, the Cape Winelands open behind you:

Stellenbosch town centre, Simonsberg & Helderberg, Vineyards stretching to False Bay

Then the rugged Mountain Terrain:

Fynbos slopes filled with ericas, proteas, restios, occasional rock bands and boulder clusters. Views into hidden valleys and folds of the mountain.

The return section, coming back down, gives you “face-forward” views into the valley — A very photogenic stretch of trail!
