Stellenboschberg Peak 1175m, 12,5km, 1095m elevation, 6hours

Let's conquer the summit of Stellenboschberg together! The Stellenboschberg route is one of the quieter, more rewarding mountain outings above Stellenbosch, offering a balance of accessibility and proper mountain feel.

This is a moderate to challenging outing depending on fitness; expect steady climbing. Mostly singletrack with sections of rocky, uneven footing. Exposed areas with little shade, so don't forget the sunblock!

The mountain is open and expansive, giving you a constant sense of gaining height.

As you ascend, the Cape Winelands open behind you: Stellenbosch town centre, Simonsberg & Helderberg, Vineyards stretching to False Bay.

Then the rugged Mountain Terrain:

Fynbos slopes filled with ericas, proteas, restios, occasional rock bands and boulder clusters. Views into hidden valleys and folds of the mountain.

The return section, coming back down, gives you “face-forward” views into the valley — A very photogenic stretch of trail!

Suitable lightweight hydration-/backpack, sunscreen, hat, proper trail shoes, snacks, enough water. Lightweight windproof jacket/fleece, beanie and gloves depending the weather. A waterproof jacket might be a handy kit item. Always dress in layers.
