Orienteering is competitive or non-competitive recreational hiking or running activity in which participants use a map and compass (compass is not compulsory!) to navigate between checkpoints along an unfamiliar route. For more information visit www.orienteering.co.za 

This is the 2nd Urban event in the Gauteng Urban Orienteering Series 2026. Three different courses, and a short kiddies course, are on offer, ranging in technical and physical difficulty. Exact course details and final event instructions will be included in the final info email sent to competitors on Friday 13th February. 

Please NOTE: The online entry fee for the event does NOT include your own Pretoria Botanical Gardens entry fee. Please pay for your ticket to enter the gardens on arrival (No cash!): Adults R90 / Students R50 / Scholars R25 / Pre-school Free. 

The orienteering courses on offer are: 

Men's Course (4kms) for experienced orienteers and fit runners.

Women's Course (3kms) for experienced orienteers and fit runners.

Explorer Course (2.5kms) for beginners, novice orienteers and walkers  great course for family groups (this course can be entered as a SOLO or TEAM)

String/ kids course (800m) is easy and fun and is for young kids (FREE entry on the day - no need to pre-enter)

Entry fees include an orienteering specific timing chip for the event.

There is a restaurant at the venue, which will be selling food and drinks.

Final instructions and info will be sent to entered competitors on the Friday before the event.

The Pretoria Botanical Gardens area consists of mix of parkland, cultivated gardens and dense bush with a complex path network spanning a rocky hillside.
